The Tarot have been used for centuries to predict the future and answer our deepest questions. The traditional deck contains 78 cards—the 22 Major Arcana cards and 56 Minor Arcana cards.
While the Minor Arcana can help shed light on the actions and decisions we make every day, the Major Arcana helps us understand our life’s purpose. Each card represents situations we face through our journey and the lessons we all must learn.
Here is a closer look at our next card in the deck, the Star.
There is something very special about the Star. It’s a truly positive sign when this card appears upright in a reading. It’s a symbol of hope, inspiration, clarity, insight and the wonderful possibilities that lie ahead. Life hasn’t always been easy for you, especially lately. Yet, the storm has passed and you’ve come through with resilience, confidence and huge potential.
The Star depicts a woman kneeling next to a small pond, holding two containers of water. Her nudity symbolizes innocence, purity and vulnerability. The woman pours water on the lush, green land behind her to nurture its fertility. She is divided between water and earth with one foot in the pond and the other on the ground. Her contact with the water represents her subconscious and intuition. Her foot on the ground symbolizes her practical, physical side. Behind her is one big star—her inner self—surrounded by seven smaller stars, representing the chakras.
If the Star appears upright in your Tarot spread, it’s a sign of good things to come. You’ve gone through something difficult, like caring for an ill family member or recovering from your own health problems, but it’s over now. Not only did you survive, you thrived. You’re stronger, calmer, more loving and at peace with who you are.
The respite you needed is here. Relax, recharge and refocus on what you want in life. Now is the time for personal growth and development. Slow down, look and listen to the signs—the Universe has a plan for you.
When the Star appears in reverse, it usually indicates that you’ve lost hope in the Universe and confidence in yourself. The challenges you’ve faced in life have got you down and you’re feeling pretty low. It’s easy to give into the sadness and to wallow in your disappointments and failures. Yet, that won’t turn things around. Only you can change the path you are on. Consider what you can learn from this experience and how you can grow. Then take action to change your life.
