10 things to celebrate about spring

10 things to celebrate about spring

With the Vernal Equinox behind us, spring has officially begun! March 20 marked the start of the season and the return of the light after a long, dark winter. What’s not to love about spring? It’s a time of renewal, both in nature and within ourselves. As the days grows longer, the temperatures warm, the snow melts, and new life begins to sprout everywhere. Take some time to enjoy the sights, scents and sounds of the spring and let this season of rebirth inspire you.

Here are some amazing things about spring that we’re excited to welcome back:

Songbirds. One of the earliest signs of spring is the return of migrating songbirds. While the species differ depending on where you live, you’ve likely heard the morning chorus increase lately. The symphony of songbirds will grow with the season!

Longer days. We’ve finally reached the point in the year where the days are getting longer, which means more sunlight and warmer weather. It might finally be time to trade in that heavy winter coat for a light jacket.

The smell of wet earth. After a spring rain shower or on a misty morning, there’s a familiar earthy smell that only happens this time of year. Plus, it’s a sure sign the snow is melting.

Sprouting trees. The bare branches of winter are no more. Watch for the return of color to Mother Nature as green buds sprout on trees and perennial plants begin to wake.

Baby animals. From the farm to the forest, new life is all around us. Animals come out of hibernation to have their babies. Catch a glimpse of bunnies, chicks, ducklings, lambs and more.

Being outside. Animals aren’t the only ones who tend to hibernate during the colder months. We also stay indoors as much as possible. Now it’s time to get back to nature and enjoy a walk, hike or bike ride.

Open windows. Once the frigid temperatures are gone, it’s time to open the windows and take a breath of crisp, fresh air.

The return of the monarch butterfly. Monarchs spend the winter in Mexico and return to North America as spring starts to warm up.

Spring cleaning. As everything is reborn outside, you can begin anew indoors too. Clear out clutter and do a deep clean in your home for a fresh start to spring.

The promise of summer. If spring is here, that means that summer is just a few months away!
